Reconnect to Google

Post by apelec » Sat Dec 12, 2020 8:06 am

Following my recent computer upgrade and new mySQL server myCal sync nicely between LAN computers but I seem to have lost the Google sync.

MyCal on Google is now over a week out of date and so is my phone with still sync with Google.

How to I reconnect VM to Google without loosing any current and historical data with all their links?

I cannot see any way to enter Google username & password anywhere in VM

Thanks

Dan, you haven't posted for a while, I hope you are well and on a nice vacation :)

I am struggling with Google Sync. My calendars is marked as "never Sync" which is strange as it has for years.

I have removed Google permission to Vueminder and set Cal to no Sync, exit and restart VM, reestablish Sync and reauthorized VM in Google, still MyCal does not upload.

Next I removed MyCal from Google and redo the above, still no joy.

It seem that one can add Google Cal to VM but not add VM cal to Google. Is their a solution to this, VM is the source master calendar and surely should be able to upload again Google.

I am lost without myCal on my phone, please advise.

Hi apelec, you should be able to sync VueMinder with Google Calendar. Please try these steps:
1. Open the Calendar Properties of the calendar you're attempting to sync and click the "Do not sync" box on the Sync tab.
2. Click the OK button.
3. Re-open the Calendar Properties and check the "Sync with Google Calendar" box on the Sync tab.
4. Click the OK button. The calendar should upload to your Google account. This might take a few seconds if your calendar contains many events.
5. On your phone, make sure the newly uploaded calendar is selected and visible.

Does that fix it?

I am almost back to normal but I did not find it as easier as your suggestions. Things did not go according to plan partly due to too many things changed at once, partly due to my impatience and partly due to Google having a tantrum in the middle of it all.

Basically I had to start from a backup taken before the decommissioning W7

Delete Google myCal and revoke VM access from PC1 and PC2
revoke phone access to Google and Delete myCal from my phone
Drop VM schema from mySQL
Delete myCal from VM
Restore PC1 from backup
Sync mySQL
Allow VM on Google & Sync
Allow phone on Google & Sync
Power up PC2 and Sync with mySQL

One last idiosyncrasy you my be able to explain for me.

When all the above settled I created two recurring events for the next 12 month
Event-1 every odd weeks in Green
Event-2 every even weeks in Black

Google (and therefore phone) does not match the colours

Event-1 is a a dark Yellow instead of Green
Event-2 is Green instated of Black

I tried to change VM appearance to no avail. Last year recurring events colours matched OK

What is the trick please

To reply to my own question, one has to restrict the colours to the "Quick Color" and I get a close enough match.

How about a "Google Color" palette?

Hi apalec, VueMinder supports 16.7 million different colors, while the Google palette for custom event colors is limited to 12 colors. When you select a color using the "Quick Color" popup (or go advanced and pick your own color), VueMinder will try to sync the selected color to the closest color allowed by Google, which might not be exactly the same because 16.7 million is slightly larger than 12...

I'll consider updating the colors in the Quick Color popup to match exactly the same colors that Google supports. I'll post a reply if/when this improvement is completed.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or suggestions.
